The problem lies in this line:

So if you override your locale to UTF-8, the problem should go away. A
possible solution would be:
`LANG=en_US.UTF-8 ./init --tut hello-camkes-0`
You may need to substitute 'LANG' with 'LANGUAGE' if the above does not
work.
